We’re using this post to create awareness of, and give a shout-out to, the local treasures we have here in the Greater Boston area, Central/Western MA, CT, and RI in the VA Boston Healthcare System, VA Central Western Massachusetts Healthcare System, VA Connecticut Healthcare System, and VA Providence Healthcare System.
About The Veterans Health Administration (VHA)
We’re guessing the average person does not know this, but “The Veterans Health Administration (VHA) is the largest integrated health care system in the United States, providing care at 1,298 health care facilities, including 171 VA Medical Centers and 1,113 outpatient sites of care of varying complexity (VHA outpatient clinics) to over 9 million Veterans enrolled in the VA health care program.” Learn about this national, umbrella organization for the New England systems we’re featuring here.
VA Healthcare System Spinal Cord Injury Services
As VA Boston Healthcare System shares on their website, they offer “a wide range of health, support, and facility services for Veterans.” And, they are proud to offer programs specific to women, minority and LGBTQ+ Veterans. Veterans residing in the Massachusetts counties of Suffolk, Norfolk, Middlesex, and Plymouth can receive services at 8 locations including the Jamaica Plain VA Medical Center, the Brockton VA Medical Center, the West Roxbury VA Medical Center; plus, five community-based outpatient clinics in Boston, Framingham, Lowell, Plymouth and Quincy.
We particularly wanted to call out the critical and exceptional work the VA Boston Healthcare Systems does and services they offer related to spinal cord injury & disorder. Veterans dealing with spinal cord injury or disorder can receive coordinated, life-long care from VA Boston Healthcare System’s specialists at the above-mentioned West Roxbury and Brockton medical centers. The specialists are committed to helping and ensuring Veterans living with spinal cord injury & disorder live the most independent, productive, and highest quality of life possible.
