How To Get Into My House If I'm Disabled
For those who find themselves suddenly facing disability that includes mobility challenges -- due to an accident, aging, or a new or progressed illness – figuring how you can access the home you love can feel daunting.
The team at Lift & Care Systems is always here to advise, via a free consultation, regarding your or a loved one’s specific needs, but, in general, most individuals facing new disability that includes inability to walk easily, or walk at all, would benefit from one or more of the following:
· A wheelchair ramp that makes it safe and comfortable for someone using a wheelchair, power chair, motorized scooter or walker to exit or enter their home.
· A vertical platform lift – think of it like an outdoor elevator – that allows you to enter or exit your home via a second/top floor of your home vs. the first floor, and to easily get access to your yard, porch or driveway. A vertical platform lift can accommodate a walker, wheelchair, power chair, or motorized scooter. The vertical platform lifts can accommodate up to 120” height from ground deck floor.
· A threshold ramp that can be used in conjunction with a wheelchair ramp, or on its own, to allow your wheelchair, walker, or scooter to navigate home entrance and exit doorways and small elevations like a short step or threshold.
· An outdoors stair lift chair that will allow those with mobility challenges to securely and easily ride up a flight of stairs that lead to a home entryway. This type of stair lift can accommodate A multi-tier set of stairs or a straight line set of stairs.
